1. Remove and soak oven racks. Take out all wire racks, side runners and baking trays. Submerge them in a bathtub filled with boiling water and two scoops of laundry powder or dishwashing tablets. Let them sit for at least 4 to 6 hours to soften the blackened, burnt-on crust before light scrubbing.
2. Apply cleaner or baking soda paste. To avoid harsh chemical fumes, mix a thick paste using half a cup of baking soda and water. Paint it over all internal surfaces, focusing on greasy corners, and avoid the heating elements entirely. Leave it overnight.
